HOW MATCH NIGHTS WORK

Each team plays a mix of home and away matches throughout the season. The aim is to keep competition balanced, fair, and enjoyable.

HOME TEAMS

Usually provide a light supper after matches, unless otherwise agreed before the season.

AWAY TEAMS

Pay match fees to the host club or home team as advised.

MATCHES ARE SCORED BY TOTAL GAMES WON

Matches are decided first by total games won, then by rubbers won in the event of a tie.

The focus is on good competition and great sportsmanship — it’s social, it’s competitive, and it’s about showing up and playing hard.

Player Resources

Consulting Services Finals Eligibility

To qualify for finals, players must:

  • Have played at least 3 matches during the regular season.
  • Be listed on the official team sheet submitted to SSL.

Clubs are responsible for confirming player eligibility with the Match and Pennant Chair prior to finals.

Consulting Services Dress Code

While SSL doesn’t enforce a single dress code, all players are expected to dress neatly and wear non-marking court shoes.

Each club may have its own specific requirements — please check with your team captain or club delegate before your first match.

When in doubt: play neat, look sharp, and respect the court.

Consulting Services Rules & Refereeingy

SSL follows the World Squash Federation (WSF) Singles Rules.

All players are expected to:

  • Understand the basic rules.
  • Take turns refereeing matches when required.
  • Always show respect to referees and opponents.

Rent a Referee (Finals Only)

For finals, if a team cannot provide qualified referees, SSL can help arrange official referees through Squash & Racquetball Victoria.

  • Two referees are required per finals match.

Supper Policy

Providing supper is encouraged but optional.

Clubs that choose not to provide supper must notify SSL before the season begins.

Teams are not expected to provide supper for visiting teams who have opted out.

Light post-match refreshments, such as fruit, sandwiches, or snacks, are perfectly acceptable.

Grading Support

SSL works closely with clubs to maintain fair and consistent player gradings each season.

We assist clubs in:
  • Assessing new or returning players
  • Adjusting grades between seasons
  • Ensuring teams are placed at the appropriate competitive level

For grading help, contact SSL through the grading section of the signup form or by email.

Forms Library

All key SSL forms are available online for easy access and submission.

Each form ensures clear communication between clubs, players, and administrators.

  • Player Signup Form (integrated on the website)
  • Team Nomination Form
  • Complaint Submission Form

Match Reschedule Requests

Matches should only be rescheduled if one team cannot field enough players.

To request a reschedule:
  • Notify the Match and Pennant Chair at least 48 hours in advance.
  • Obtain mutual agreement from both captains and the host club.

Reschedules will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis to maintain fairness across the competition.
