Referee Certification (RAP)
The Referee Accreditation Program (RAP) ensures that all players and officials within the Southern Squash League understand the rules, uphold fair play, and maintain consistent standards across all competitions.
Every club circuit player must hold a valid RAP certification, renewed every four years.
Purpose of the RAP Program
The RAP program, delivered in partnership with Squash & Racquetball Victoria, aims to:
- Promote fairness, consistency, and respect on court.
- Ensure all referees and players understand the WSF Rules of Squash.
- Create a common standard across SSL pennants and clubs.
- Support player education, safety, and enjoyment.
Refereeing knowledge is part of building a better playing experience for everyone.
Who Needs RAP Certification
Required For
- All current SSL players in pennant competitions.
- Team captains and vice-captains officiating matches.
- Referees officiating finals or sanctioned events.
Recommended For
- Club coaches and administrators.
- Tournament and grading volunteers.
- Parents and guardians of junior players.
All certifications must be renewed every four years.
Certification Levels
Level 0
Club Referee
Covers the basics of squash rules and scoring. Recommended for new players and social referees.
Level 1
Accredited Referee
Required for all SSL league players. Covers match control, decision-making, and communication.
Level 2
Advanced Referee
Designed for experienced officials overseeing finals and tournaments.
How to Get Certified
RAP courses can be completed online or through in-person workshops hosted by Squash & Racquetball Victoria.
- Register through SSL or your club delegate.
- Complete the online theory module.
- Pass the assessment with a minimum score of 80%.
- Submit your certificate to SSL.
Once verified, your details will be added to the SSL RAP Register.

The register includes:
- Player Name
- Club Affiliation
- RAP Level
- Date of Last Certification
- RAP Expiry Date
- Status (Active / Expired / Renewal Due)

Renewal Reminders
SSL sends reminder emails three months before RAP expiry dates.
- Renew early to avoid interruptions.
- Renewals can be completed online or in-person.
- Valid RAP status is required for finals eligibility.
Compliance & Record Keeping
All RAP certifications are verified and stored by the SSL Committee in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
Certification records may be shared with Squash & Racquetball Victoria and affiliated clubs for validation purposes.
Failure to Maintain Certification May Result In:
- Ineligibility to play in SSL finals.
- Restrictions from certain pennant matches.
